Tooth Decay: Not Something to “Treat,” but Something to “Control”

In the past, the common approach was to “go to the dentist when it hurts.” Today, that has changed. We now know that tooth decay is not caused by a specific “cavity-causing bacterium,” but rather by a shift in the normal bacteria in your mouth due to lifestyle habits (this is known as the Ecological Plaque Hypothesis).

In other words, it is essential not to simply “treat cavities after they form,” but to “prevent them through ongoing control.” To achieve this, regular check-ups and professional maintenance at our clinic are indispensable.

Do any of these habits sound familiar?

Only Visiting the Dentist for Treatment?

Only visiting the dentist when you have a problem is often not enough to maintain your long-term oral health. By the time you feel pain, a cavity may have already become severe or infected the nerve. Regular check-ups are crucial for early detection and prevention before conditions worsen.

Is Good Brushing at Home Enough?

While excellent home care is essential, even the most thorough brushing can’t remove all plaque, potentially allowing problems like gum disease to go unnoticed. To complement your efforts, we recommend personalized guidance on the best brushing techniques for your unique smile.

The Importance of Preventive Dentistry

Preventive dentistry may seem time-consuming and expensive when considered in terms of months or years, but when considered over the course of a lifetime, it is a very smart and effective way to spend your time and healthcare dollars.

Our Approach to Preventive Care

Care from Your Own Dedicated Hygienist

We have four full-time dental hygienists, and we assign a dedicated hygienist to each patient. This continuity allows us to track subtle changes in your oral health over time and provide more detailed, personalized maintenance.

Quality Maintenance Covered by Insurance

Many people assume that ongoing maintenance is an expensive, out-of-pocket cost. At our clinic, however, you can receive thorough preventive care that is covered by your insurance plan. We believe managing your oral health is a vital part of your routine wellness, not a special luxury.

More Options for Your Dental Care

We provide care primarily under the national health insurance plan, but also offer a variety of private treatment options for those who desire them. Please be assured, however, that your fundamental care, including maintenance and treatment for urgent issues like pain, will always be available to you as an insured service.

Appointments Now Available for Maintenance

For a time after our 2015 opening, our maintenance services were offered on a private basis, but we now have ample availability for regular maintenance appointments. If you’re looking to protect your oral health and make preventive care a part of your routine, now is the perfect time. Please feel free to contact us to schedule a visit.

Pediatric Preventive Treatments

For Your Child’s Lifelong Dental Health

The health of your child’s first teeth greatly influences their permanent teeth later on. We pay close attention to two crucial windows. The first 3 years after their baby teeth emerge sets the stage for future oral health. Later, the 3 years after their permanent teeth come in is when they are most vulnerable to cavities due to immature enamel. Proactive care during these times is the key to protecting their smile for life.

Key Points for Your Child’s Preventive Care

  • Strengthening teeth with regular fluoride treatments.
  • Developing proper brushing habits.
  • Controlling cavity risk through healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Monitoring teeth alignment and providing care as needed.

Proper teeth alignment is important not just for aesthetics, but also for a functional bite and future health, which is why early checks are essential. To protect your child’s overall dental health, we strongly recommend regular preventive care.

Our Preventive Care Services

A Partnership in Preventive Health

We believe preventive dentistr all treatment, essential for preventing future issues and ensuring your long-term oral health. In our preventive program, we start with a thorough check-up and then provide examinations and maintenance based on your own personalized care plan.

To empower you, we provide TBI (Tooth Brushing Instruction) so you can master the correct techniques with a clean toothbrush. Our goal is to help you maintain a healthy, beautiful smile for life through simple, consistent daily care and professional support.

Professional Dental Cleaning【PMTC】

During this procedure, a dental professional (dentist or dental hygienist) will use specialized instruments to meticulously remove plaque and stains that cannot be eliminated by daily brushing alone. To finish, a fluoride gel is applied to coat the teeth, helping to prevent cavities and gum disease.

Scaling (Plaque & Tartar Removal)

This procedure removes the buildup of plaque and tartar, the primary causes of cavities and gum disease, using a specialized ultrasonic instrument. It is a gentle treatment with minimal discomfort, so you can feel at ease.

Airflow (Advanced Stain Removal)

This gentle treatment uses a high-powered spray of fine powder and water to effectively remove stubborn stains from your teeth. It is ideal for removing discoloration caused by coffee, tea, or tobacco that is difficult to eliminate with daily brushing alone.

Fluoride Application for Stronger Teeth

This is a professional treatment where we apply fluoride—highly effective in preventing cavities—directly to your teeth to strengthen the enamel. For optimal results, we recommend an application once every 3 to 4 months. Consistent treatment increases the fluoride levels in the surface of your enamel, making your teeth stronger and more resistant to decay.

Your Dental Health Self-Check

If any of the following points apply to you, we encourage you to schedule a consultation.

  • You sometimes experience tooth sensitivity or pain.
  • Your gums are occasionally swollen or bleed.
  • You are concerned about bad breath.
  • You are unhappy with the color or shape of your teeth.
  • You feel that you aren’t chewing effectively.
  • You haven’t had a regular check-up in a while.

Even if you aren’t experiencing any problems right now, regular maintenance is the most direct path to protecting your long-term oral health!

Let’s build a new habit together: visiting the dentist not because you’re in pain, but to prevent pain from ever starting.

Please feel free to schedule an appointment.
